Where did cats come from

most cats come from all wild cats called Felis silvestris lybica that originated in the Fertile Crescent in the Near East Neolithic period and in ancient Egypt in the Classical period.

According to a study by Claudio Ottoni, the domestication of the cat took place in two strains, but all the cats of our world have a common ancestor: the North African / Southwest Asian wildcat, Felis silvestris lybica (Ottoni and others 2017).

Other experts have also discovered that cat domestication comes from leopards in China. J.D. Vigne analyzed the skeletal remains of cats in China and discovered that there may have been a short-lived domestication of leopards in China, independent of domestication elsewhere (Vigne and others 2016).

Until today, they haven’t proved that the current domestic cats come from the Leopard of China, so if there was a time that they were domesticated, it did not last (Vigne and others 2016).
